Diamond actual size on screen: see any carat at real size

By HeyGema™ · Updated

In short

A screen shows a millimeter at a different size on every device, so a picture is only actual size once the screen is calibrated. Hold a bank card against the screen once, and every stone here is drawn at its real size, for example 6.5 mm for a 1 carat round diamond.

Diamond actual size on your screen

1 ct diamond round: 6.5 mm. Calibrate once below to show it at actual size.

Why calibrate

Phones, tablets and monitors pack pixels at very different densities, and the browser cannot read the true size of the screen. Matching the box on the screen to a bank card (54 mm on its short side) or a US quarter (24.26 mm) tells the page how many pixels make a millimeter. It is saved in your browser, so the other size pages use it too. Set browser zoom to 100% first.

No screen handy: print it

Print the actual size diamond chart at 100% and lay a stone or a ring on it. It has a bank card box and a ruler to check the scale.

Questions

Calibrate the screen with a bank card or a coin in the tool above, then choose the carat, shape and gem. The stone is drawn at its real millimeter size for that screen.
Pictures are measured in pixels, and a pixel is a different physical size on every screen. A calibration ties pixels to millimeters.
A round 1 carat is 6.5 mm across. After calibration the tool shows it at that width on your screen.
